SUMMARY:Forest Forays - Eco Botanical Printing
DESCRIPTION:Book this experience \nForest Forays\nForest Forays are relaxed & fun experiences in the woods. They differ from standard workshops in that the emphasis is on the being\, not just the doing\, the doing is the focus for being in the woods. The fire will be lit\, the kettle will be on it & we will gather to enjoy the magical space & each other\, whilst having the buzz of learning & playing. \nBotanical Printing – Ecologically\nBotanical printing is the printing of plants\, using a method to extract their colours & patterns onto paper. Prints can also be achieved on fabric but we will be using paper for this session. Most often\, botanical printing uses chemical mordants & often plastic in the process; we will be using only natural ingredients & materials to produce our prints. There are a limited number of plants that work well with this method but they are plenty enough to create beautiful & interesting art work. We will use the super exciting ‘wood fired’ method of printing & cook our prints outdoors over the fire. Identifying & collecting plants is all part of the fun\, so if you have access to your own foraging see the list of plants in the ‘what to bring’ section. The ‘cooking’ part of the printing process takes a couple of hours\, so will give us time for lunch & a wander in the woods. \nWhat to bring\nYourself \nA packed lunch (tea & biscuits provided) \nComfy clothes & shoes suited to the woods & weather. I’d recommend boots/trainers & scruffs. \nPlants to share: if you have any of the following\, please bring a small selection to use in your own prints & ideally share with others\, cut them on the morning or the night before to keep them fresh: Cotinus/smokebush\, Geranium leaves\, Rose leaves\, Herb Robert/wild Geranium\, blackberry leaves\, Sycamore/Acer \nScissors or secateurs (we have a few pairs but bringing your own means you don’t have to wait) \nOther info \nWhen you have booked your place I will email you with directions & instructions for parking. \nThe workshop site is within a beautiful ancient 33 acre woodland where we live\, we have basic off grid facilities including a compost loo. \nBook this experience

SUMMARY:Forest Forays - Flower Carving using Hazel Wood
DESCRIPTION:Book this experience \nForest Forays\nForest Forays are relaxed & fun experiences in the woods. They differ from standard workshops in that the emphasis is on the being\, not just the doing\, the doing is the focus for being in the woods. The fire will be lit\, the kettle will be on it & we will gather to enjoy the magical space & each other\, whilst having the buzz of learning & playing. \nFlower Carving\nThe timing for this event will coincide with the woodland being in bloom with the bluebells\, so it’s flowers all round…\nUsing coppiced Hazel wood at different stages of growth\, we will carve traditional Gypsy Flowers & smaller blossom flowers. Gypsy flowers are a stylised version of a traditional craft sold door to door as firelighters\, carved well they become an ornamental object of beauty & at worst\, you have yourself a cracking fire lighter. Gypsy flowers are carved using a drawknife clamped in a shavehorse\, blossom flowers are carved using a small knife & can be very theraputic to whittle. Learn to use these tools & sharpen your knives as you go. This ancient woodland is undoubtedly the best place to practice this age old craft.\nAll materials included in cost. \nWhat to bring\nYourself \nA snack? Tea & biscuits will be provided but if you have a particular brew or smackeral you can’t live without\, bring it along. \nComfy clothes & shoes suited to the woods & weather. I’d recommend boots/trainers & scruffs. \nOther info \nWhen you have booked your place I will email you with directions & instructions for parking. \nThe workshop site is within a 33acre woodland where we live\, we have basic off grid facilities including a compost loo. \nBook this experience

SUMMARY:Pizza Oven making 1 day workshop
DESCRIPTION:Book this course \nLearn how to build your own Cob Clay Pizza Oven\,   \nWith expert tutor David Alty \nCome to the woods to learn in a hands (& feet) on style\, as a small group. This busy one day workshop will give you the knowledge to build your own oven at home\, having had the practical experience & the chance to ask questions along the way. Your tutor will provide you with a worksheet to take home to remind you of the process\, allowing you to have fun & fully immerse yourself in the day. \nWorking with a pre built plinth\, you will learn how to insulate this & level it ready for the fire brick base\, the foundation for your oven. You will learn about the importance & mix of selecting the right materials & the precise dimensions that work for such an oven. \nThe cob is mixed with bare feet (a fun & potentially messy process); if you prefer to not do this bit you can get stuck in with creating the sand forma\, that creates the shape of the oven\, instead. Once the cob is ready you will prepare the ‘loaves’ that form the blocks to build the oven. Tasks will be shared to ensure you experience every stage of the process. \nCourse times 10am-4pm \nA simple vegetarian lunch will be provided. \nWhat to bring \nclothing suitable for the weather (we will work under a shelter if the weather is wet) \nshorts or trousers you can roll up for the clay treading \nwork gloves if you prefer not to get clay on your hands \nyour own towel if you prefer not to share after feet cleaning \nwe will be working outdoors in the woods\, please bring any sunscreen or insect repellent as you require. \nIf you have any particular dietry requirements that mean a simple vegetarian lunch may not work for you\, please bring your own food to supplement it. \nOther info \nWhen you have booked your place I will email you with directions & instructions for parking. \nThe workshop site is within a 33acre woodland where we live\, we have basic off grid facilities including a compost loo. \nIf you would like to stay overnight before or after the workshop\, please get in touch to discuss options. We can provide basic accommodation on site or let you know of the other closest options. \nBook this course
